Friends,

Derrick Broze here with an update on my lawsuit against the state of Texas regarding my rejection from the Houston Mayoral ballot in 2023 because of my 18-year old, non-violent felony from 2005.

You may recall that we are seeking to overturn Texas Election Code by showing that the restrictions against non-violent felons is both a violation of the Texas Constitution and the U.S. Constitution.

Well, as we expected, in late February our lawsuit was rejected.

We knew from the beginning that this was going to be an uphill battle, and that our lawsuit would more than likely be rejected in the first round.

Now, the fight continues in the appellate courts (and, perhaps, eventually the Texas Supreme Court) in order to prove that the Election Code is unconstitutional.

We filed our notice to appeal on March 22nd and we are not going to quit!

Thanks to our committed supporters who have donated to this cause, we have the financial resources to file our appeal and continue this fight for those who have served their time for their mistakes, and want to serve their communities by running for office.

Of course, this is still the early stages of this fight, and we will need more financial resources to fight all the way to the end.  If you can afford to donate $5 or $10 to our legal fund please consider doing so!

Thank you so much for the support and for believing in me.
